Adwords-driven Business

   

Taking a break today from talking about Google Slap and
Quality Scores, to instead talk about "Adwords-driven
business".

It's about taking a higher-level view of how to use Adwords, and
how to run a profitable online business from it.

I could go on and on about this topic, just from my own
experiences and observations.

But let me focus on one thing here:
using Adwords to quickly test products and markets.

Most businesses will spend a lot of time, effort and money
developing something, trying to perfect whatever they're
selling, and THEN see if anyone is interested.
They may think they know. They may have some anecdotal
"evidence" that people want what they're selling, and they can
be profitable.

A funny thing happens when you unveil something to the
public:
you often get results far different than expected

Example: in the crazy dot.com days, Furniture.com blew through
astronomical sums of money because they "knew" that they could
be successful selling furniture online.

Problem was, it wasn't until they spent millions on
infrastructure, employees, inventory, etc. that they found out
it couldn't work - at least not they way they'd planned it.

If they would have just done smaller scale testing they could
have foreseen the challenges. And learned that what they were
trying to do mis-matched what the market wanted.
Then they could have adjusted or just abandoned the idea,
without much money spent.


Direct marketers have known for a long time that you need to
test things as quickly and cheaply as you can.

And THEN ramp up as you find what works.

With Adwords you can very quickly put tests together and start
getting feedback (in the form of impressions, clicks, newsletter
signups, messages from subscribers) before you even have a
product ready.

It's the flexibility and agility with which you can do things
via Adwords, that makes it such a powerful tool.
Well, that coupled with the HUGE audience that Google has.


I'm in the process of working on a guide called "The Adwords Secret"

For example, I have a 5-step process that goes from early testing (before you've done any work to create or acquire a product) up to actual selling.
At each step I determine whether results warrant going to the next step.
