The Ultimate AdWords Resource Guide!

People keep asking me for recommendations on Adwords guides and tools.
So I thought why not just create a page that says what's good ... and what's not.

As opposed to other "review pages" out there, I'm not just shilling what I can get a commission on.
For example, I recommend Google's own help pages - even though I don't make a dime off that recommendation.

Conversely, I don't recommend "AdWords Tycoons" and other half-baked "get rich quick with AdWords" guides out there, even though I could make significant money by doing so.

There's too much noise out there on the internet, especially with things related to internet marketing.
I hope this list is at least one "beacon of light" out there.

Add these to your AdWords arsenal ... or else fail in your AdWords pursuits ... with tons of keywords with low CTRs and showing "poor" quality ... not to mention non-existent conversion rates!

Anyway, enough rambling.
Though I like to quote Joe from Resevoir Dogs:   Okay ramblers ... let's get rambling!

Without further ado, Here are the recommendations bearing the coveted

AdWords Mad Scientist Seal of Approval

Best Getting-Started Guide:

Perry Marshall's The Definitive Guide to AdWords

Okay, this is a standard recommendation. But Perry, and his right-hand man Bryan Todd, have put together a great guide.

First of all the guide gives a great introduction to AdWords. But it also gets you in the mindset of playing the AdWords game to win.

You structure your adgroups to do laser-focused groups of keywords, and your ads speak to that focus.

They also point out that to not be doing split-testing of your ads is leaving money on the table. I couldn't agree more.

Anyway, lot's of good stuff.

If you're whining about not getting going at all with AdWords, it means you probably don't have this guide. Or else you have it and haven't really started putting things in practice.

Best Intermediate AdWords Course:

AdWords Killer

This is a great course (plus lifetime membership) from AdWords expert Will Halliburton.

It's a rare course that gives profitable information at the "intermediate" level - beyond just the basics.
And Will has been in the trenches doing real Adwords advertising for a while.

A lot of AdWords information is the same old introductory material. And for the record Will does provide the introductory material, as a free bonus, to those that need it.

He talks about a key factor (that I can't give away here) which gives you an unfair advantage over the competition. The kind of thing that will make clueless would-be competitors give up in disgust, while you continue to make more and more profits from your keywords!

His section on bidding is worth the price of admission. It's just a few paragraphs, but very good. One trick in particular had me hitting my head and thinking "why didn't I think of that!".

Oh, and let me mention that he has some great tips on defeating the Google Slap. Good step-by-step things to do to keep your minimum bids low (and thus not over-paying for clicks ... or worse: not getting clicks at all) while competitors have to give up.

Well I could go on and on here. You don't have to take my word for it. He has a great zero-risk guarantee. So you are assured of getting a great ROI from it. I know I will!

Best Advanced AdWords Course:

AdWords Profit Secrets

Okay I'll admit to a bit of bias here, since it's my own course.

AdWords Profit Secrets covers different topics, such as keyword discovery, AdWords copywriting, defeating the Google Slap (and improving quality score).
Though one criticism I've heard is that each individual guide is fairly short.

But there are two important things I should mention:

1) It's about valuable information, without overwhelming you with a ton of stuff. If you want a "big" course that comes in 20 CDs (when the content would really fit on 1 or 2 CDs) that makes a big thud, then this isn't the course for you. It's about in-depth, yet concise, guides on advanced Adwords topics.

2) I expand the course over time, for free. Once someone buys, they get on my "Adwords Elite" course and get notifications of free updates/upgrades as they come out.

Bottom line: you can get great value out of the gate. And will even more over time, as I come out with secrets from my "lab" as I discover them.

Best Course on Content Targeting and Site Targeting:

Okay, hopefully I'm not getting myself in trouble here.

The thing is that the author of the guide, Ian Rollinson, doesn't say "Site Targeting" in his salesletter.
But I feel I'm serving in his interests, and yours, by saying that the big value of AdWords 180 is that it's about how to stop playing a "sucker's game" (I know I have myself) with Content Targeting.

You can be a lot smarter, and get a lot better ROI, if you know the secrets to doing Site Targeting. And then move from throwing money away on Content Targeting, and making better profits from laser-focused Site Targeting

Now it only applies to niches where you can find sites with good Adsense ads, to target. But that's true with Content Targeting too.

And I'd say it works for the majority of niches out there. If your niche has good content sites out there, with Adsense on them, then you'll get great value from these secrets on Site Targeting.
So if you have a niche that has viable content sites with Adsense, this guide gives you the path to find what sites to target and how to target them effectively.

He has one powerful technique that's so counter-intuitive that you would almost certainly miss it on your own.

Bottom line:

Sure he gives some intro and miscellaneous info on Adwords. Count those as the "previews" before the movie. The Feature Presentation is in the Site Targeting stuff.

Apologies to Ian for letting the cat out of the bag here, but I think I'll be giving him more sales (and more happy buyers) as a result of giving the punch line ... but leaving it for the guide to give the vital how-to details.

Oh, and if you buy through my link, I'll give you some added information to boost your results with Ian's techniques. Just forward your Clickbank receipt (or order number) to me, at , and I'll hook you up.

Best Guide for Affiliate Marketing (using AdWords):

Actually a lot of AdWords guides tend to be geared toward affiliate marketing. For example, "Google Cash" should really be called "Using Google AdWords to make money as an affiliate" - but of course that's not as catchy.

The author of Day Job Killer (I'll just call it "DJK" from here on), Chris McNeeney, has done a whole series of guides on AdWords for affiliate marketing (with some token mention of expanding into selling your own products). You can get value from each one, individually, but Day Job Killer is the best overall, in my opinion.

For one thing, it does a great job of keeping you within "what works". So you don't spend a lot of money on broad keywords, before finding they don't covert.

And also how to effectively pick good products to promote.

An example of a "bit" from DJK that I liked, is where he talks about ad differentiation.

So many people try to talk about finding "the one" ad type that works. But as Chris points out, you also have to look at the competition. To me this is Business 101, applied to AdWords advertising. But a lot of people miss it. You need to think how your ad will stand out. Maybe you emphasize a different benefit. Or add a benefit that someone else doesn't have. For example, if there's free shipping, and other ads don't show that - then put it in your ad.

There are a number of such great things in this guide.
And it's also about taking you step-by-step so that you can quickly take action.

As someone who also conveys Adwords techniques and "processes" to follow, I can tell you it's not easy to give step-by-step formulas. Chris does a great job of doing that, for the techniques that he lays out.

Bottom line:

If you want to do affiliate marketing, via AdWords, using proven techniques, then Day Job Killer is a great investment.

Oh, and if you buy through my link, I'll give you some added information to make you even more profitable. You'll get my own bonus guide "AdWords Mad Scientist Day Job Killer".
For example, I'll tell you the one affiliate network that he lists, that I recommend avoiding (and why). Plus other things to take his guidance to the next level. Just forward your Clickbank receipt (or order number) to me, at , and I'll send it to you.

Google Cash - 3rd Edition

Note: Wasn't a big fan of the initial Google Cash (I was already doing "Google Cash" techniques, before he came out with his guide) though I did have to admire his naming and packaging of the material. But I've heard good reviews on the 3rd Edition. After I take time to do it justice, I'll put in a real review ... either positive or negative ... from my results.
