advertising on Twitter?

February 2, 2010

okay, I don’t really have the answers here. I’m more just posing the question:
If you want to advertise on Twitter, how do you do it?

Just started looking and found a couple ways to do it.

One is like an adsense approach to using twitter backgrounds – to display ads (that aren’t clickable). Found a company that does that

Another is a marketplace for advertisers to do advertising tweets. Though they’re done as real posts. Don’t know how well that works in practice.
I wouldn’t do those kinds of tweets myself.

Though I am curious as an advertiser how that would work.
And you pay similar to a CPM. But it’s priced per thousand followers.

I’m sure Twitter has something in the works.
Maybe they’re in serious talks with Google, to become a search partner.

Maybe Google is offering $12.4 Billion for Twitter (okay, I just made that number up – don’t take it as real!)

It does remind me of the early days of Google. You got this great search tool, with no advertising – just clean searching.
They added advertising after everyone was “addicted” to it. And the good thing is the advertising complements the search.

As opposed to Yahoo which still throws a million things at you on their page (though maybe you can configure that? I always switch back to Google before looking further!)

Anyway, I guess it probably won’t be too long before Twitter monetizing their impressions with ads in some way.
I just want to get in line to start advertising, when that happens

I just started looking into advertising on Twitter.  There are probably 12.4 billion (there’s that number again) people that know stuff that I don’t, regarding this.  So feel free to chime in or comment below!
