New AdWords feature: Device and Carrier options

February 2, 2010

Adwords device and carrier options

Okay, Google now let’s you pick specific mobile devices and carriers!

Current mobile device options:
Android, iPhone/iPod-Touch, Palm webOS

Current mobile carrier options, for the US:
AT&T, Cricket Communications, Metro PCS, Nextel, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon

I’m not sure what to do with this yet.

Though one thing does call out to me:

Certain things may do better with iPhone/iPod-Touch.
Especially if you’re going for a audience that’s more about style … and tends to have more disposible income.
And those are reasons that iPhone apps do so well. That, and the “immediate gratification” via the iTunes store.

(disclaimer: I’m not strictly for or against iPhone or Apple. I use a MacBook Pro, and an “old school” iPod. But don’t do iPhone)

Android will tend to have a more techie audience. And will tend to especially be Google fans of course (so hopefully respond better to AdWords ads? but who knows)

And as for carrier: Cricket tends to have a completely different audience than the others

Anyway, it’s always great to have more options.

I just realized:
If you’re actually promoting devices or services you could really have “fun” with it (and more profits)

If you’re promoting Verizon, you could target an AT&T audience, with a jab at AT&T (without mentioning the trademarked name). And then play up how Verizon is better. Or vice-versa

Go to a landing page that’s about switching from one to the other

Anyway, just thinking out loud here.

If you’ve tried these options, let me know how they work out for you.  Or better yet: give a comment here
